Georgia vs. North Carolina

ATLANTA (April 15, 2016) – As spring practice wraps up and college football teams all over the country head into spring games, the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game will celebrate the countdown to kickoff by releasing its new logo.

On Saturday, which marks 140 days until the 2016 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, fans at the University of Georgia and University of North Carolina spring games will have the opportunity to see the logo firsthand via a segment on the stadium jumbotrons. WATCH THE LOGO REVEAL & HYPE VIDEO

The reimagined logo now features the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game’s Old Leather Helmet, the icon of the nation’s longest-running kickoff game that represents the origins of college football rivalries. It also includes the signature Chick-fil-A script and blue banner utilized in each of the properties that make up the Peach Bowl, Inc. family of events – the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game and Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge charity golf tournament.

The logo was developed by Phoenix Design Works, a New Jersey-based agency known for its extensive work with sports clients that include NASCAR, ESPN, Nike, Major League Baseball and more.

The 2016 Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game, featuring No. 23 Georgia vs. No. 17 North Carolina, will open the college football season on Saturday, Sept. 3 in Atlanta. This will mark each team’s second appearance in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. The Bulldogs and Tar Heels have met 30 times since 1895, but have not played since 1971. Georgia holds the series advantage at 16-12-2.

ABOUT THE OLD LEATHER HELMET
The Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game’s coveted Old Leather Helmet Trophy is an icon of toughness and courage that represents the origins of college football rivalries.

Regular season “trophy games” are an integral part of the history of college football: From Paul Bunyan’s Axe to the Golden Hat to the Victory Bell to the Seminole War Canoe, college football is filled with emblems of big-game rivalries. And now, the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game has added The Old Leather Helmet to the mix, starting its own tradition. The difference is, playing for the Old Leather Helmet is by invitation only.
