SEATTLE (June 28, 2018) – University of Washington football players spent the afternoon with more than 65 youth campers at a field day at Warren G. Magnuson Park yesterday. The event was created to connect Washington players with Seattle’s youth community and to help raise awareness for diabetes.
The event was formed in connection to the Huskies’ season opener against Auburn in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in Atlanta. The field day provided campers an interactive environment to learn about diabetes and the long-term effect healthy lifestyle choices have in preventing later consequences of the disease.
University of Washington football players Ben Burr-Kirven, Chico McClatcher, Michael Neal, Tevis Bartlett and Race Porter connected with the campers by participating in various drills and scrimmages throughout the day.
All of the activities were primarily focused on flag football and volleyball, but it gave campers the opportunity to meet and engage with Washington players. The field day was a high-energy event that was also informative and encouraged the children to maintain an active lifestyle.
Long time partners, Peach Bowl, Inc. and Lions Clubs International, were the creators of this field day event in an effort to reach the Seattle community leading up to the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game in September.
Washington is scheduled to face off against Auburn on Sept. 1 in this year’s Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
